Ex-Red Wings fan favorite getting one final shot to prove his worth in the NHL with PTO signing

An announcement has surfaced in the media regarding a former Detroit Red Wing, Brendan Smith, being signed to a PTO.

The Columbus Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate team, the Cleveland Monsters, just announced they have signed defenseman Brendan Smith to a PTO.

During training camp this year, Smith had a PTO with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which unfortunately resulted in him not landing a contract for the season.

However, not this veteran, who will have one last opportunity to impress after landing this tryout with the Monsters.

And fans seem happy with the organization's decision.

This 36-year-old defenseman was the Detroit Red Wings' first-round pick (27th overall) for the Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Draft, where he would later spend his first years of professional hockey, 2011 to 2017, with the organization.

Smith has now accumulated 726 games within the National Hockey League and accumulated 39 goals and 105 assists, totaling 144 points within his professional career.
