Red Wings free agent officially taking his talents to Florida on a one-year contract
The Detroit Red Wings have lost a goaltender to Florida, as the depth option has signed a one-year deal with the Everblades.
The goaltender depth of the Red Wings organization can boast to be one of its strong points.
The players above have pushed out prospect Gage Alexander, who has been a fixture in the team's
depth charts in the ECHL.
The 23-year-old was originally the 148th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.
He
was acquired by the Red Wings on July 3rd, 2024, in exchange for Robby Fabri and a conditional 4th-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Last season, Alexander played in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye. The 6-foot-6 goalie
signed a deal with the Florida Everblades for the 2025-26 season.

When the depth goaltender decided to turn pro, he spent the majority of his professional career in the ECHL playing on the Tulsa Oilers, after playing 16 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.
He's never been able to crack a roster spot in the NHL despite his hard work.
Last season, Alexander found himself playing for both the Reading Royals and Toledo Walleye in the ECHL.
In one game with the Toledo Walleye, he finished with a 9.00 GAA and a .813 save percentage.
Maybe his path to the NHL will be through the ECHL, but it appears he needs to put in extra work.
