Detroit Red Wings lose forward on waivers to the Columbus Blue Jackets

The Detroit Red Wings are gearing up for the Trade Deadline, and they've re-called forward Carter Mazur from the Grand Rapids Griffins; he's expected to be in the lineup for tonight's game against the Utah Hockey Club at Little Caesars Arena.

Additionally, they've waived veteran forward Christian Fischer, who has subsequently been scooped up by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets beat the Red Wings in back to back games, starting last Thursday at Little Caesars Arena followed by their controversial win over Detroit in the Stadium Series game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

Fischer's time with the Red Wings officially comes to an end after he signed with the club before last year and decided to re-up for this year.

Last year, he scored 19 points (5G, 14A) in 79 games played, but only appeared in 45 games this year, scoring 7 points (1g, 6A).

Thanks to their longest losing streak under new coach Todd McLellan, the Red Wings have now slipped out of the postseason picture and have been leapfrogged by the Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and divisional foe Ottawa Senators in the standings.

Tonight is a crucial matchup in Detroit against the Utah Hockey Club, which they know is of critical importance.

However, as noted by defenseman Moritz Seider after Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, they aren't paying much attention to the outside noise and are only focused on what lies ahead of them.
