The Detroit Red Wings need to bolster their blueline, and their next target could be Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram.

GM Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings need to load up on talent in order to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.
That means repairing a busted blue line, that isn't that great and running on fumes with players like Justin Holl, and Erik Gustafsson( who arguably fit better in New York).
But the Red Wings' next trade target shouldn't just be the forward Dylan Cozens, but Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram.
Frank Seravalli mentions how they need additional help on the backend, and the bottom pair is looking kind of rough.
Now, they need more substance on the back end. It's the biggest thing separating them from locking down this playoff spot, which the franchise desperately needs.

Bowen Byram would help fill out the Red Wings' blue line which has stars like Moritz Seider, but no one else.
Byram could add to skill and speed on both sides of the puck for the Wings, as he's primarily an offensive-defenseman.
He could join the rush with the forwards and contribute to the power-play. Despite that, he could use some brushing up on his defensive game.
Nevertheless, he remains a target for GM Steve Yzerman, as none of the other defensemen in the lineup have quite the upside as Byram.
Need I mention, Justin Holl, or Ben Chiarot?
Either way, it seems he's not a fit for the Sabres. The former fourth-overall pick has only produced 29 points ( 7 G, 22 A) in 60 games for Lindy Ruff and Buffalo.
At only 23 years old, he still has plenty of time to develop and mature his game into a two-hundred-foot phenomenon.
And with a team-friendly contract, the ability for the Wings to retain his rights would be valuable for the Wings should they have to trade him down the road.
What could a hypothetical trade look like?
Filip Hronek and a fourth for a first and second

Acquiring Team: Vancouver Canucks
Trading Team: Detroit Red Wings
Traded during the 2022-23 season

Can Stevie Y pull off a blockbuster trade with Bowen Byram in his sights? Of course he might have to give up some value in return.
