Head coach Derek Lalonde was dismissed, along with defensive assistant Coach Bob Boughner. In their stead, former Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup-winning assistant Coach Todd McLellan has arrived along with new assistant Trent Yawney.
The Red Wings are in a difficult position, currently in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division with a 13-17-4 record.
Their most recent game was an embarrassing 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Little Caesars Arena, resulting in the fans that hadn't already gotten a head start on the traffic to react with an angry chorus of booing as time ticked away in regulation.
Hopefully McClellan can right the ship (hopefully)
The picture here feels intentional. Accountability is back on the menu boys!
This is who I wanted when he got fired last year. Won a cup with the wings in 2008 and been around the NHL forever. Great hire!
Lalonde taking the blame for Yzerman's poor signing Ghost and Walman having pretty good season and guess what we need? Defenders.
A change needed to be made..hate it, but I wish Newsy luck in his next adventure.
Is McLellan my favorite choiceno. HOWEVER, this roster will benefit from having a coach with over 1,000 games coached. The roster still needs some work, but this is a nice first step.
best of luck newsey. YOU HAVE to be harder on your players when stuffs not going good
Finally! I still think Stevie has built a team with major issues, but now they've got a real coach to figure out just how far the issues go
