The Detroit Red Wings made a major change last week, firing Derek Lalonde and hiring Todd McLellan, and now Darren McCarty is reacting to the major move.

Last week, the Detroit Red Wings pulled off a mid-season coaching change for the 1st time since 1985-86.

General manager Steve Yzerman dismissed Derek Lalonde along with assistant coach Bob Boughner after the team stumbled out to a 13-17-4 start to the year; he's replaced them with Todd McLellan and Trent Yawney.

For former Red Wings forward Darren McCarty, currently a host with the Woodward Sports Network and who won the Stanley Cup four times with the club, it's a welcome and needed change behind the bench.

Santa came a little late, I guess it's a Canadian Boxing Day present for all of you! Derek Lalonde is no longer the coach of the Detroit Red Wings, he is out!

McCarty especially endorsed the return of Todd McLellan, who won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings as an assistant to coach Mike Babcock in 2008, to the organization.

McCarty played on that Red Wings squad after authoring an impressive personal comeback story, and believes that McLellan is just what the current version of the Red Wings needs.

Todd McLellan, let me just tell you he won the Cup as our assistant coach in 2008, he's coached in the NHL with San Jose, he's been around, I think he was in LA for a bit.

Dude, he could not be a better guy for the job as far as both, telling you what you need to hear but not be bulls**ting with you.
