Former Detroit Red Wings prospect has been traded
Tnias Mathurin, once a potential prospect for the Detroit Red Wings, is now heading to the Windsor Spitfires from the North Bay Battalion.
Tnias Mathurin, a 6-foot-3 defenseman selected 137th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2022 NHL Draft, has faced challenges due to a significant shoulder injury, which affected his 2022-23 season and his opportunity to secure an NHL contract.
The Detroit Red Wings had high hopes for Tnias Mathurin, noting his size, mobility, and athleticism. However, with other defence prospects like William Wallinder and Axel Sandin Pellikka developing rapidly, the Detroit Red Wings decided to release Mathurin's rights on June 1, 2024.
Now, as a free agent, Tnias Mathurin aims to impress NHL scouts with Windsor, just a short drive from Detroit. Despite his current status, his potential remains, and he continues to seek an opportunity to fulfill it.
