They host the New York Islanders (7-7-5) at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night, and Alex Lyon has officially been named the starting goaltender for the matchup.
Lyon's last appearance was Friday night's 6-4 setback against the Ducks at Honda Center; he surrendered five goals on the 28 shots he faced.
Meanwhile, his overall numbers aren't much to look at, as he's accumulated a record of 2-4-0 with a goals-against average of 3.14 along with a .903 save percentage.
The Red Wings and Islanders have already faced one another this season, and it was nothing short of a bizarre stat line.
The host Islanders outshot the Red Wings by a 30-10 margin at UBS Arena on October 22, yet it was Detroit who picked up the two points with a 1-0 win.
Veteran forward Patrick Kane's first-period goal was the game's only tally, as Lyon stopped all 30 shots he faced to pick up his first and only shutout so far of 2024-25.
Head coach Derek Lalonde lauded Lyon's performance, explaining that Lyon displayed a certain calmness that had an effect on the rest of his teammates, via Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News.
It also marked the first time in over 50 years that the Red Wings won a game in which they had 10 or fewer shots.
Thursday's contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM EST and can be viewed locally on FanDuel Sports Network with additional coverage on 97.1 The Ticket FM.
