Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman could reportedly trade more than 1 bad contract
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman could soon trade more than a single bad contract on the team belonging to an underperforming player.
The tenure of Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman since he returned to the franchise in April 2019 hasn't been perfect, as there have been a handful of Ken Holland-esque contracts that he's given out.
But could he be on the verge of shedding some of that salary?
Per Todd Matthews of Octopus Thrower, three names stand out as being the most likely for Yzerman to get rid of at the Trade Deadline (March 7), the first being defenseman Justin Holl; he also names goaltender Ville Husso, who is in the final year of his contract, and defenseman Erik Gustafsson, who is in the first of a two-year deal.
He hasn't been a major piece of Derek Lalonde's puzzle, and that also appears to be the case regarding Todd McLellan. Even with the Red Wings on the rise, Holl's still not on the ice for a ton of goals, evidenced by his minus-7 rating.
Yzerman could listen to potential offers for any of the aforementioned players as he continues his work of making the team better to advance to the postseason.
