The Detroit Red Wings brought in some valuable goaltending experience when they agreed to terms with Cam Talbot over the summer after deciding not to retain James Reimer.
Talbot has mostly performed well for the Red Wings this season, having played a crucial role in many of their wins.
But could he also earn a major international honor?
The NHL is set to feature the "4 Nations Faceoff" in February in Boston and Montreal featuring players representing the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden.
Right now, Talbot is a serious possibility to be named one of the goaltenders for Team Canada, something that he would relish.
According to Canadian manager Doug Armstrong, also the GM of the St. Louis Blues, the goaltending situation for the Canadians is different than in years past.
Right now, the United States is stronger at the position with the likes of Thatcher Demko, Connor Hellebuyck, and Jake Oettinger.
But for Armstrong, it's up to him to find the right talent to put Canada in the best position for success.
Talbot arrived in Detroit this offseason after having already played for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota Wild, Calgary Flames, and Los Angeles Kings.
In his first year with Detroit, he owns a record of 5-3-2 with a 2.67 goals against average, a .920 save percentage, and one shutout.
