Yesterday, March 7, the NHL hosted their 2024/25 trade deadline, concluding in many fans being outraged at the outcome of the Detroit Red Wings trades and returns.

This has begun controversy regarding the Red Wings' general manager,Steve Yzerman, who was once seen as savior for the organization as he was once known for his track record of success with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
April 19, 2019, is likely a memorable day for majority of hockey fans in the city of Detroit, this was the day that the former Detroit Red Wings superstar, Steve Yzerman, was named the new and improved general manager when he overtook the position that was previously in the hands of Ken Holland.
This major replacement gave fans optimism for the future of the Red Wings, leaving them to believe Yzerman would fix it all, and called it the "Yzerplan".
However, fast forward 6 years later as GM, Yzerman continues to give fans reasoning to believe he is not the guy for this organization, since he has been the face of the company, all Detroit has seen are countless unwhelming moves and have yet to see the playoffs, and it looks as if their absence will continue for the upcoming event.
Last week, the Detroit Red Wings were sitting comfortably in a playoff spot, proving the team was more than capable of making their first appearance in 9 years to the playoffs.
However, this opportunity has gradually diminished, with the Red Wings currently sitting with a 5-game losing streak and Yzerman's absence in yesterday's trade deadline being more than noted, it seems as though Detroit's GM has no intention on competing for a playoff spot anymore.
After acquiring Petr Mrazek and Craig Smith for Joe Veleno yesterday during the trade deadline, the team continues to struggle to retain key-forwards that can contribute to the Red Wings' overall success.
With the trade deadline now completed, and countless opportunities missed, could Detroit's GM make up for it during free agency? Or Is it time for the Detroit Red Wings to replace their GM and forget about the 'Yzerplan'?
