While New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe has played barely over a total of 20 games in the NHL, he's already picked up four ejections.
And now, he's earned the longest suspension for an on-ice infraction since 2018.
Thanks to his blatant elbow to the head of Dallas Stars blue liner Miro Heiskanen in last night's game at American Airlines Center, Rempe was handed an 8-game suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
According to the ruling, the DPS considers Rempe to be a repeat offender due to the fact he's already been suspended one time. Last March, he was suspended for 4 games after a dirty elbow on New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler.
This is also the longest suspension since Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was banned for 20 games (later reduced to 14 on appeal).
While he was being escorted off the ice by a linesman, Rempe also drew controversy when he put his glove to his hear and made a "can you hear me now?" style gesture.
Rempe had also just been called up from the American Hockey League to the Rangers, who had previously lost 11 of their last 14 games before last night's 3-1 victory.
He'll be eligible to return on January 9 to the Rangers lineup.
At 6'8, Rempe is a physically imposing presence on the ice, but he's gotten into trouble far more than most players are in throughout their entire careers.
In just 22 games, he's been tossed four times now.
