Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde is under the microscope amidst his team's struggles, and one TSN analyst believes he could be coaching for his job.

It's gut-check time for the Detroit Red Wings, who host the New York Islanders at Little Caesars Arena tonight.

They enter the contest in desperate need of a win, not only to halt a three-game winless skid, but to climb out from being tied for last place in the Atlantic Division.

Meanwhile, an Original Six team has already fired their head coach this season, as Jim Montgomery was let go by the Boston Bruins earlier in the week.

Could Derek Lalonde potentially be next? TSN's Darren Dreger believes Lalonde's seat may have gotten uncomfortably warm, , especially in the last week.

When asked if he believes that Detroit could soon go the route that Boston took, he answered in the affirmative.

Speculatively speaking, I would say yes. I'm looking right at the Detroit Red Wings, and that's not new information, but it's definitely heating up there.

The problem is that the Detroit Red Wings, because of their start, are with a glut of teams fighting for the same spot. They recognize that they are going to have to go on a heater. Now, they do feel somewhat encouraged by the fact they're on a homestand, but you do have to consider the what-ifs.

The Red Wings play five of their next six games on home ice, and Dreger indicated that general manager Steve Yzerman may have no other choice if they can't string together some badly-needed victories.

But, if this homestand does not produce results, then I think you potentially could see a head coaching change.

Maybe that goes hand-in-hand, with as you said, teams hitting the 20-game mark, the quarter mark of the regular season, U.S. Thanksgiving.

Historically, that's when we start seeing these sorts of decisions being made.

The Red Wings face the Islanders starting at 7:00 PM (FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
