This won't do anything to ease the concerns of fans who believe there are already too many NHL teams, as Gary Bettman is reportedly eyeballing a new location.

The National Hockey League has expanded into uncharted territory in the last 30 years with varying degrees of success.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the thought of more than a single NHL team in southern California was unthinkable, let alone a pair of teams in Florida. The NHL has also moved into North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona (and now Utah), and Washington State.
But now, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is reportedly eyeballing a new location for the League - the Big Easy.
NHL analyst Kevin Weekes reported that the League has shown interest in an expansion team in New Orleans, which is already home to the NFL's New Orleans Saints and the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans.
👀 In speaking to Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and other sources involved,I can confirm that there was a recent meeting in NYC with a group expressing their interest in bringing an @NHL expansion team to New Orleans. #HockeyX #NewOrleans
And it's an idea that's fully supported by Louisana Governor Jeff Landry, who wrote the following on his X account:
Big game today, USA vs. Canada! It's time Louisiana has an @NHL Team. The economic impact would be substantial and having the Stanley Cup in the Big Easy would be a win for all.

Right now, the only feasible option for an NHL expansion franchise in New Orleans would be to play in the Smoothie King Center, the home of the Pelicans which opened in 1999.
