But should future Hall of Famer and Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane have been included on the American roster?
As Kane admitted, his stat line to begin the year wasn't good enough to justify an invitation.
I think this year I didn't play well enough to be picked for the team, so it's not like I'm blaming anyone or anything besides myself.
Fortunately for Detroit, Kane's production immediately picked up after the Red Wings terminated coach Derek Lalonde and hired Todd McLellan; he even led the NHL in points with 13 in the 1st eight games after the coaching change.
Still, he wasn't included on the final roster for the American team that fell a single victory short.
I mean, you definitely want to be there and you feel like you're missing out on some great hockey and great opportunity too. It is what it is. Personally...you start looking back, I mean we missed nine years of it, right? So, those first four, five, or six years of those nine years were some of the best hockey I've played in my life, so obviously you think about those opportunities that were missed.
Kane and the Red Wings are back on the ice tomorrow afternoon against the Minnesota Wild at Little Caesars Arena (12:30 PM, ABC, ESPN, 97.1 The Ticket).
