The team finished the season with an outstanding record of 51-17-10-4, earning 116 points. Their journey to winning the Stanley Cup was impressive, as they conquered the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche and finally the Carolina Hurricanes. Even more remarkable is that the team boasted ten future Hockey Hall of Famers and had Scotty Bowman as their coach. Bowman himself was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.
Shanahan led the team in points for the season with 75, amassing 37 goals and 38 assists. Fedorov closely followed with 68 points, then Hull with 63, Lidstrom with 59, and Robitaille with 50.
During the playoffs, Yzerman demonstrated his abilities with 23 points, six goals and 17 assists. Shanahan and Fedorov also performed well, each contributing 19 points.
This season marked Datsyuk's rookie year with the Red Wings. He secured 35 points, including 11 goals and 24 assists, and during the playoffs, he added three goals and three assists. Notably, two former Detroit Red Wings stars, Henrik Zetterberg and Chris Osgood, are eagerly awaiting their induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Osgood became eligible in 2014, while Zetterberg recently became eligible this year.
