The Detroit Red Wings are again leaning towards a three-goalie system for the upcoming season.

Last year, injuries to starting goaltender Ville Husso forced them to rely on Alex Lyon and James Reimer, and now they have added veteran Cam Talbot to the mix.
NHL Level:
Cam Talbot: Signed to a two-year, $2 million deal, Talbot's acquisition adds depth and experience. Despite Yzerman's initial reluctance to bring in another goaltender, Talbot, at 37, remains a solid option, having backstopped the Kings to the playoffs last season. His durability is questioned, but he's the likely frontrunner for the starting role.
Alex Lyon: Coming off a season with a respectable 2.1 goals saved above expected, Lyon faces competition but could see a reduced workload, potentially improving his performance. He provides a trade option, given his low-cost contract and solid play.
Ville Husso: Recovering from multiple injuries, Husso trained elite NHL players over the summer, signalling readiness for a competitive role. However, his past performance and health will be scrutinized as he battles for the starting position.
AHL Level:
Sebastian Cossa: With a pattern of slow starts followed by dominance, Cossa is set for another AHL season to gain consistency and handle a full workload. He'll face competition from Jack Campbell, who aims for a career resurgence after being bought out by the Oilers.
ECHL Level:
Carter Gylander: Impressive in recent prospect games, Gylander will likely play in the ECHL, aiming for volume to develop further.
Gage Alexander: Recently acquired, Alexander has struggled to find his form but will provide depth at the ECHL level.
Other goalies in the system:
Trey Augustine: Poised to be one of the NCAA's top goaltenders at Michigan State and Team USA's starter at the World Juniors. Known for his poise and clutch saves, he focuses on consistency this season. His NHL timeline is open, with another year in college possible before a likely stint in the minors.
Landon Miller: He is a raw talent, 6-foot-5, taking on a bigger role with the OHL's Soo Greyhounds. Detroit is patient with his development, emphasizing a clear path for goalies.
Rudy Guimond: He is a long-term project for Yale, still finding his game in the USHL.
