Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry was hurt in their 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets on January 2, and the latest update from Todd McLellan isn't the best.

While the Detroit Red Wings play the San Jose Sharks tonight (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket), Jeff Petry will remain out of the lineup with an injury that he sustained nearly 2 weeks ago.

According to head coach Todd McLellan, the Red Wings aren't expecting Petry to be available for the foreseeable future.

Petry still hasn't skated, so we're talking longer term there.

When he was asked if Petry would be able to accompany the Red Wings on their upcoming 4-game road trip, McLellan all but confirmed that he would be unable to.

I would say no right now, I haven't asked that. But in my own head, I would say no.

Petry, skating in the final year of his contract, has 6 points (1G, 5A) in 34 games.

In the meantime, the Red Wings have been getting strong play from rookie Albert Johansson, who recently scored his 1st NHL goal:

He appeared to get tied up with Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko, who was about to fire a shot attempt at Cam Talbot. Petry fell to the ice and was assisted by Simon Edvinsson as he made his way back to the bench hunched over in pain.

(Injury takes place at the 6:37 mark)
