The red-hot Detroit Red Wings, who have won 7-straight games, are aiming for their longest winning streak since their last Stanley Cup winning season of 2007-08.
Tonight, they host the San Jose Sharks at Little Caesars Arena (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
According to Ansar Khan of MLive, the Red Wings are planning to start goaltender Ville Husso in goal for tonight's game; Cam Talbot, who has started Detroit's last 3 games, will get a breather.
This will mark Husso's 1st start in exactly a month; he helped the Red Wings defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 14 by making 23 saves, including a game-saver in the 3rd period on Mitch Marner's breakaway attempt:
Husso's contract expires this summer, and he can hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
Right now, the realistic chances that he lands another deal from general manager Steve Yzerman likely aren't very good considering that Talbot is signed for another year along with young Sebastian Cossa getting closer to making the jump to the NHL.
Husso was sent to the AHL after a rocky start in Detroit's season-opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins in October, but has gone back and forth between the Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins thanks to various injuries to both Talbot and Alex Lyon.
His win against the Maple Leafs on December 14 was his first win in over a year; his previous victory took place on December 12, 2023 against the St. Louis Blues, ironically the team with whom he began his career.
