Detroit Red Wings Linked to Trade With Sabres Former 7th Overall Pick Dylan Cozens

The Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres have been in ongoing trade talks ahead of the March 7 trade deadline, and it's involving the Sabres' most valuable asset.

But sadly, the Red Wings will have to give up a specific prospect.

The Red Wings are in valuable search for a promising second-line center, and that is 24-year old Dylan Cozens.

Steve Yzerman has attempted to fulfill the role in signings of Andrew Copp and J.T. Compher in recent years, but neither have been able to sustain the role.

Cousins has three years remaining on his $7.1 million cap hit, and at the moment Detroit is one of the only contenders that has cap space available to absorb his salary.

Sportsnet's known insider Elliotte Friedman revealed during an interview on Jan. 10, that the Sabres and Red Wings were moments away from completing a deal for the 24-year old center.

However, the Sabres are not interested in prospects or draft picks, they are seeking an NHL-ready player.

Red Wings beat writer, Ansar Khan, reported that the Sabres would consider Jonatan Berggren in a trade.

Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now also furthed the report of interest, stating they've been interested for 'months'.

Insider Kevin Weekes, who is on the ESPN NHL panel revealed several teams who are attempting to acquire Cozens:

With just 11 goals and 27 points in 54 games this season, alongside the Buffalo Sabres' poor play as of late, the Red Wings could be the ideal destination to rejuvenate his game and unlock his full potential, which was once seen in the 2023 NHL season where he scored 31 goals and put up 68 points.
