Red Wings fans couldn't help but notice there was a jab made against their playoff drought, which is currently the 2nd longest in all of the NHL.

It goes without saying that it's well past time for the Detroit Red Wings to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs - after all, they've failed to qualify since 2016, which is now the 2nd longest in the NHL.
The only other team who has a longer playoff drought than they have is the divisional foe Buffalo Sabres, who haven't qualified since 2011.
During Thursday night's 4 Nations Faceoff title game between Canada and the Americans, there was a jab taken at the postseason drought of the Red Wings by the announcing team that fans couldn't help but notice.
Only time Larkin has ever played in the playoffs is his rookie year.

Is 2025 the year that the Red Wings return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

The Red Wings infamously came within a single point of making the postseason last year, falling just short thanks to a tie-breaker with the Washington Capitals.
Detroit had beaten the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime in back-to-back games to close out the year, which even included a dramatic last-second tying goal from David Perron in the season finale to keep Detroit's playoff hopes alive.
But at the same time in Philadelphia, the Capitals scored on the Flyers' empty net after coach John Tortorella infamously pulled his goaltender late in regulation of a 1-1 tie in a vain attempt to secure the game-winning goal; the Flyers had no choice but to win in regulation in order for them to qualify for the postseason, which also didn't happen.
Thanks to the coaching change made by GM Steve Yzerman from Derek Lalonde to Todd McLellan, the Red Wings have vaulted themselves right back into a Wild Card postseason position, but it will be up to them to maintain it as we enter the stretch drive of the year.
