Injured forward J.T. Compher has been unavailable to the Red Wings for the last several games, and coach Todd McLellan has the latest update on his condition.

The Detroit Red Wings are on a heater right now, having won 7-consecutive games for the second time since late December when Todd McLellan was hired as head coach.

The Red Wings are now right back in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, and currently occupy a Wild Card position. Their 3-2 shootout win over the Kraken on Tuesday marked the 1st time in franchise history that they'd earned wins in 7-straight games twice within a 20 game span.

The good news is that they've managed to keep winning despite not being at full strength, as they were without forward Patrick Kane for several games.

They've also been without Jeff Petry since early January, while they've also been missing J.T. Compher since January 25 when he was struck by Emil Lilleberg of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the blue line; Lilleberg was suspended as a result.

Following today's practice at Little Caesars Arena, Todd McLellan indicated that Compher was close to making a return to the lineup and could potentially play against the Lightning on Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM, ABC, ESPN+, 97.1 The Ticket).

Per beat writer Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press -

Todd McLellan said he believes Compher available Saturday when Red Wings host TBL, though he wasn't sure if JTC has been medically cleared.

Compher is in his 2nd year with the Red Wings after signing a 5-year, $22.5 million deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $5.1 million.

And while he reached a career-best 19 goals last year, he's struggled to maintain that pace this year with only 6 goals through 48 games played.
