Following their 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings fell to the divisional foe Boston Bruins on Saturday night, a disappointing setback that took away most of the good feelings from Thursday.

Unfortunately for the Detroit Red Wings, the good feelings from their having ended what was a three-game losing skid were brief.

Multiple turnovers and being kept in their own defensive zone for much of the game spelled doom for the Red Wings against the Boston Bruins on Saturday night, who escaped Little Caesars Arena with a 2-1 win.

Boston won their second straight contest after parting ways with coach Jim Montgomery earlier in the week and replacing him with assistant Joe Sacco.

Following the game, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin pointed toward the mistakes the players made with the puck

We played hard, we competed, and we just came up short. There's a lot of learning in this game and I thought we matched their compete (level).

They get the first one, we respond and then it's a tight game. We ice the puck and then they get a faceoff goal, which has been an area of emphasis for us to not give up those goals.

The Bruins took advantage of a Red Wings lost a faceoff in their defensive zone, as team captain Brad Marchand roofed a shot past the glove of goaltender Cam Talbot midway through the third period; the goal eventually stood up as the game-winner.

Larkin also lamented the fact that his team only managed four shots in the third period, which included a pair of hit posts with time ticking away.

We didn't get out clean enough. We didn't hang on to pucks in the O-zone well enough.

They did a good job blocking and fronting shots, but we didn't get second and third opportunities around (Jeremy) Swayman.

The Detroit Red Wings also failed to convert on five separate power-play opportunities.
