Could the Detroit Red Wings swing a trade within their own division? One trade pitch has them acquiring the 6'5 Nikita Zadorov from the divisional foe Boston Bruins.

Following their back to back losses against the Columbus Blue Jackets in which they allowed 5 goals in both contests, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has to be thinking about some upgrades to his blue line.
One trade pitch made via the PuckPedia PuckGM tool has the Red Wings going within their own division for an upgrade. The proposed deal sees the Red Wings pick up defenseman Nikita Zadorov from the Boston Bruins in return for Erik Gustafsson, prospect defenseman Shai Buium, and a 2025 2nd round pick.
Both Zadorov and Gustafsson are in the 1st year of their current contracts; Zadorov has an AAV (average annual value) of $5 million, easily affordable by the Red Wings. He would also bring an added element of toughness onto the Detroit blue line.

The Red Wings have a challenging schedule the rest of the year

Red Wings forward Joe Veleno spoke recently about the changes that coach Todd McLellan has brought to the club that has helped them build the NHL's best record since the coaching change was made on December 26.
We've just been playing real good hockey all the way around, doing a lot of things well. Competing, and our attention to details have been sharp. When Todd came in here, he introduced us to a lot of new systems and the way we'd like to play. We feel good about our chances and our game. We definitely want to be that team to push to the very end and learn from those mistakes last year that didn't get us in the playoffs.

Additionally, Moritz Seider is not interested in any kind of excuse despite the Red Wings having the hardest remaining schedule in the NHL based off the opposition winning percentage.
I don't even want to know if we have the hardest schedule or if we're flying the most amount of miles in the league. There are no excuses right now. We have to win, we have to get points, and no matter who we play, I think if we bring our A game, we have a good chance of getting two points.
