The true colours of Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin came through after last night's tough 5-3 loss to the Blue Jackets in the outdoor Stadium Series game.

It was a tough loss for the Detroit Red Wings in last night's Stadium Series game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it came in controversial fashion.
But despite the disappointment of the 2nd straight loss to the Blue Jackets in regulation, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin had a special message for the parents of the late Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically lost his life along with his brother Matthew last August.
This city, this night, was special and I hope Mr. and Mrs. Gaudreau had something to smile about tonight. I want both of our teams in the playoffs.

Larkin is good friends with Blue Jackets defenseman and former Michigan Wolverines teammate Zach Werenski.

Dylan Larkin was called out by coach Todd McLellan after Thursday's loss

One of the more disappointing factors in the 1st of the back to back losses against Columbus was the play of Larkin on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena.
Head coach Todd McLellan didn't mince any words, saying that Larkin was essentially missing from the game.
I can't beat around the bush, he was missing. He's a big boy, he can handle hearing that. He's going to hear it from me. Just a lot of mishandles, unsure plays that he usually makes.

McLellan also made sure to note that he doesn't believe using the 4 Nations Faceoff as an excuse for fatigue.
I'd like to think that the 4 Nations is so far past us already. We've had enough rest. I'm not using it as an excuse. I'm not even going to go there. We're playing big games, we need our big players to play big games, and we'll need more from not only him but some others.

Did the Red Wings need to do more in calling out last night's poor officiating?
