The Detroit Red Wings are coming off back-to-back losses at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets, but last night's matchup was a significant one.

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets, headlining the NHL's 2025 stadium series.
That's said, while fans around the league enjoyed the spectacle at Ohio Stadium, the Blue Jackets victory came with its fair share of controversy.

Referee's missed blatant high stick

Justin Danforth scored off his own rebound at 17:43 of the third period, Elvis Merzlikins made 43 saves, and the Blue Jackets defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 in front of 94,751 at Ohio Stadium in the 2025 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series game at Ohio Stadium.
While Danforth's goal set the stadium on fire, the referees missed a blatant high stick call on Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson.
After the game, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin made himself for his usual interviews, emphasizing his dissatisfaction regarding last night's result.
The Red Wings are not happy at all about the non-call that looked like a high stick in Simon Edvinsson's face.

«We deserved better tonight,» Dylan Larkin said.
To be fair, Danforth's actions against Edvinsson was about as blatant as it gets.
Although Dylan Larkin vented his frustration, he admits that last nights game was bigger than hockey.
"I want both of our teams in the playoffs," Larkin said. "I think those guys have quite the story going right now. Sometimes it's bigger than the game and those guys are doing something that I tip my cap to and can appreciate."

The Columbus Blue Jackets are still dealing with the horrendous aftermath of Johnny Gaudreau's passing, and last night was a beautiful demonstration of his overall impact of hockey in Ohio.
With a shot at the playoffs now on the line, it should be interesting to see how the Wings respond.
