The Detroit Red Wings dominated the 1st period of play against the Capitals today, scoring 4 goals while Patrick Kane picked up a major career milestone.
This is exactly the kind of period and effort that the Detroit Red Wings needed.
They took it to the Washington Capitals, not only outshooting them 13-5 but also putting four pucks past goaltender Charlie Lindgren.
And in the process, forward Patrick Kane picked up a major career milestone. With his assist on teammate and good friend Alex DeBrincat's goal, he picked up his 1,300th career point.
He becomes the 38th active player in NHL history to achieve the feat, and the third active.
Patrick Kane understood the assignment from new head coach Todd McLellan
New Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan held his 1st full, official practice since being named the 29th coach in team history after the dismissal of Derek Lalonde on Thursday.
And during the intense session, he issued a blunt demand to his players in an effort to light a fire:
Just play f***ing hockey, you've done it your entire lives!
And Kane explained afterward that he felt McLellan was doing his best to simplify the game for them in the midst of their struggles.
I think he's trying to make the game simple for us. Where you're just going out there and playing. I think most of the time if you're playing hard and skating hard and maybe if you make a mistake or two, if you're still working then sometimes that covers that up a little bit.
I think that's a good way to play too. Not thinking to much and you're just playing off of instinct. Overall, just make the game a little simpler for us.
