Former Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi was thrown from his most recent game after a soft play, quite possibly the worst penalty call of the year so far.

Former Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi is known for his hard-nosed play, but during last night's game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars, his reputation may have cost him.

During the 2nd period of last night's game at United Center, hit Stars forward Colin Blackwell with a reverse body check, but it was his follow through that was deemed to be too high.

Blackwell collapsed to the ice in obvious pain, while Bertuzzi was soon assessed a match penalty for elbowing and tossed from the game.

The game was tied 1-1 at the time of the incident; just 12 seconds after the penalty was called, Jason Robertson scored to give the Stars the lead. Eventually, the Stars scored three more times, winning 5-1.

Since joining the Blackhawks with a 4-year contract during the summer, Bertuzzi now has 18 points (11G, 7A) in 37 games played.

Bertuzzi is now playing for his fourth Original 6 club, as he's suited up previously for the Red Wings along with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins.

He was traded by the Red Wings in 2023 to the Bruins, and later signed with the Maple Leafs during that summer.

The 4-year contract he received from the Blackhawks over the summer is the longest deal that he's been signed to so far during his career, which have included several stretches of missing time because of various injuries.
