Valtteri Filppula, the former NHL veteran and 40-year-old forward, has decided to continue his professional hockey career by signing a contract with Jokerit Mestis in Finland.

He signed with the team he previously played for during the 2012-13 NHL lockout. This move is particularly notable given his age, and reports suggest that Filppula will become a co-owner of the club once he retires.
Filppula's impressive NHL career spanned 16 seasons with teams like Detroit, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, and the NY Islanders. He played over 1,000 games, scoring 197 goals and tallying 530 points. His final NHL season with the Detroit Red Wings was 2020-21.
A member of the prestigious Triple Gold Club, Filppula is the first Finnish player to win the Stanley Cup, a World Championship, and an Olympic gold medal. His return to Jokerit is a fitting continuation of a remarkable career. Best of luck to Filppula in Finland, as he proves that age is just a number in professional sports.
