Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Rick Zombo is in need of prayers after being hurt in a car accident; he's currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Rick Zombo, who played over 350 games with the club from 1984 to 1992, has been seriously injured after being involved in a car accident.

Per Dave LewAllen of WXYZ-TV, Zombo was hurt in an accident and is currently receiving treatment in a St. Louis hospital.

Hearing former @DetroitRedWings defenseman Rick Zombo was involved in a serious automobile accident over the weekend. He is being treated in a St. Louis area hospital. Zombo played 353 games over eight seasons with the Wings. Prayers up for Rick.

Details surrounding the accident or the exact extent of Zombo's injuries (or who else may have been involved) are unknown at this time.

Zombo played parts of 8 years with the Red Wings and scored 92 points (14G, 78A) in 353 games with the club. He also played for the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues.

The Red Wings originally selected him with the 149th pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft while playing for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

Zombo would later get into coaching in the North American Hockey League before taking a job as an assistant coach at Lindenwood University.
