Steve Yzerman, the Red Wings GM, has a talent for spotting and and pick these players and this year should be no different than the other.
One of the player the Red Wings should keep an eye on is Tij Iginla, the son of former NHLer Jarome Iginla. Even if he is likely to go in the top 10, if teams decide to pass and he slips to No. 15 the Detroit Red Wings should pick him without hesitation. Iginla is a dynamic forward who can both score and make plays. Last season, he scored 47 goals and if we include playoffs games, he had 56 goals in 75 games, averaging 0.75 goals per game.
Iginla would be a great fit for the Red Wings if he goes to No. 15. He also had 99 points in those 75 games, averaging 1.32 points per game. At 6'0 and 185 lbs, he's physically ready for the NHL and he does not turn 18 until August so he has a gap on the other player in the draft. While his skating, physicality and defense need work, this is not uncommon in young player to have to improve these areas.
Iginla's high hockey IQ, drive and patience with the puck make him more than just a scorer. He is a polyvalent player who can contribute in various ways on the ice.
