The names that automatically come up are Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, and Moritz Seider. Here's the case for each one of them.
PATRICK KANE
The future Hall of Famer is a natural choice. He has already worn it during a special occasion against his former team. Known as a leader, well-respected, and an excellent player, Kane has 20 goals and 27 assists in 50 games with Detroit. However, with little to no chance of him re-signing with the Red Wings, he might not be the top choice just yet.
LUCAS RAYMOND
The Red Wings' superstar could also be a candidate to wear the 'A' if Perron leaves. As the team's top scorer during the 2023/2024 regular season with 72 points in 82 games, he has proven himself a winner and a talented player. Young and potentially the future face of the team, the question now is, is he ready?
MORITZ SEIDER
The less obvious choice is the 23-year-old. He's set to sign a long-term contract with the team, and it would make sense to throw in the 'A' for the future as well. He's respected by his peers and isn't shy about doing what needs to be done instead of focusing on personal stats. He's a good all-around player. He had 42 points in 82 games last season, and his production has remained constant since his arrival at the Red Wings.
