With the preseason upon us, the Detroit Red Wings are set to play eight games before their October 10 home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Although the roster is mostly set, with 12 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goaltenders likely to make the cut, roles remain open.

Several key players are worth watching closely during this preseason. Among Detroit's forward prospects, Nate Danielson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Emmitt Finnie, Marco Kasper, and Carter Mazur stand out. Danielson, Kasper, and Mazur will have the opportunity to compete for roster spots or establish themselves as top call-up options. At the same time, Finnie and Brandsegg-Nygard aim to make lasting impressions before returning to their leagues.
