Major Detroit Red Wings press conference called for Friday morning

It was one of the biggest stories in recent Detroit Red Wings memories, and the details are set to be released later this morning.

Head coachDerek Lalonde was terminated from his position after just under 2.5 years on the job, while assistant coach Bob Boughner was also let go.

In their stead, the Red Wings hired Todd McLellan as head coach and also indicated that he'd been signed to a multi-year contract, suggesting that this move had been in the works for some time.

Additionally, the Red Wings hired former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman and head coach Trent Yawney as an assistant on McLellan's staff; he's previously worked with Detroit's new head coach with the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.

The Red Wings are set to explain the reasoning behind their decisions that were made yesterday, led by general manager Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings came within a point of securing their 1st playoff spot since 2016 last year.

However, in the month of March, they experienced a devastating 7-game losing skid that all but destroyed their realistic chances at the postseason.
