Former NHL head coach and Hockey Night in Canada host, a polarizing figure, has sparked more debate online after his Christmas Day post on social media.

Hockey Night in Canada was never the same after the termination of the polarizing Don Cherry, who was let go in 2019 after his comments regarding Canadian immigrants and wearing poppies to acknowledge fallen Canadian soldiers.

Cherry, who now hosts his own successful podcast, made a play on his controversial "you people" remarks that cost him his gig at Sportsnet with a special Christmas greeting.

Merry Christmas to you people!

Don Cherry was fired from Sportsnet after his controversial comments in 2019

Cherry was let go after decades as a Hockey Night in Canada staple after his remarks in November of 2019 directed at Canadian immigrants who refused to wear the symbol commemorating the sacrifice of fallen Canadian soldiers of war.

At least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy.

You people, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price.

Meanwhile, his longtime co-host Ron MacLean drew the ire of fans of Cherry by not only failing to defend his co-host but describing the remarks as "hurtful and prejudiced".

Cherry has since said that he feels the friendship he once had with MacLean can never be repaired, clearly feeling like he was thrown under the bus.
