The Red Wings begin a critical 4-game road trip tonight against the Oilers, and they may have tipped their hand when it comes to the status of forward Patrick Kane.

The Detroit Red Wings begin a critical 4-game road trip that begins tonight against the Edmonton Oilers (9:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).

They're coming off a 3-game sweep at home which included victories over the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning along with a win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Detroit's young players, including rookie Marco Kasper along with Elmer Soderblom, helped pave the way to victory for the Red Wings against the Kings as they combined for 3 goals.

But missing from the game was Patrick Kane, who has missed the last 3-straight with an upper body injury he sustained during last week's loss to the Dallas Stars.

Based on their line combinations during practice yesterday, it doesn't appear as though Kane will be ready to go tonight.

Per MLive's Ansar Khan, the Red Wings skated with the following lines and power play units in yesterday's practice at Little Caesars Arena before they departed for Alberta.

Kasper - Larkin - Raymond
DeBrincat - Copp - Kane
Soderblom - Rasmussen - Fischer
Tarasenko/Berggren/Veleno/Motte/Shine all appear to be rotating on that line.

Chiarot - Seider
Edvinsson - Johansson
Gustafsson - Holl

1. DeBrincat (net front), Larkin (bumper), Raymond-Kasper (flanks), Seider (point).
Kane not getting many (any?) reps, so might not be ready.
2. Rasmussen (net front), Copp (bumper), Berggren-Tarasenko (flanks), Gustafsson (point).

The Red Wings have gone 3-0 without Patrick Kane, do they need him to rush back?
