Red Wings players reveal major change in overall mood after 2nd straight win under new Coach Todd McLellan.

The Detroit Red Wings did what they had to do on Tuesday night, closing out 2024 in style as they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena by a 4-2 final.

J.T. Compher scored the winning goal in the 3rd period by getting his stick on a loose puck behind former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic; they also got goals from Jonatan Berggren and Patrick Kane.

The Red Wings earned their 2nd straight win under new Coach Todd McLellan, who replaced Derek Lalonde behind the bench just under one week ago.

And as McLellan said said after the win over the Penguins, the overall mood of the team is different then when he arrived - in a good way.

It was more about this group then it is about me. There are so many excited guys in there and happy guys right now.

Just the whole mood is different than when we started, and that means more than the 600. Some of those guys weren't even alive (when McLellan started his career) so it doesn't matter to them.

Goalie Alex Lyon, who won his 2nd straight game by stopping 23 shots, agreed with McLellan's stated philosophy that teams who reach three goals first are typically the winners.

I definitely think he's right. But there's a process. Getting that first one tonight is massive, and if you can put one on the board it creates a huge advantage. That's the recipe in this league - you have to score and be smart and play the game the right way.

A fine line of attacking but still playing smart at the same time.

Do you still cringe when you think back of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final between the Red Wings and Penguins?
