The Detroit Red Wings picked up a badly-needed victory against the New York Islanders, and are right back at it tonight with the divisional foe Boston Bruins in town.

It was a game they had to have, and the Detroit Red Wings (8-9-2) came through when it mattered most late in regulation against the Islanders for a 2-1 win on Thursday.

And now, they're hoping to make it two straight when the divisional foe Boston Bruins (9-9-3) invade Little Caesars Arena for the first time this year.

Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde has decided that the team will go back to Cam Talbot, who last played in Monday night's 5-4 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, for tonight's game.

Additionally, defenseman Justin Holl will be back in the lineup, though Lalonde didn't specify who he would replace on Detroit's back end.

Alex Lyon backstopped the Red Wings to a critical two points in the standings against the Islanders on Thursday, making 22 saves.

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman signed Talbot during the offseason after playing last year with the Los Angeles Kings.

In his first year with the Red Wings, he's performed well with a record of 5-3-2 with a 2.67 goals against average and one shutout.

His .920 save percentage is tied for 10th overall amongst all NHL goaltenders.

Meanwhile, the Bruins are also looking for a second straight win after defeating the Utah Hockey Club 1-0 on Thursday in Boston.

It was also their first game since they parted ways with head coach Jim Montgomery; Joe Sacco is now serving in Montgomery's vacated role.

With a win, the Red Wings can move to within one point of the Bruins in the Atlantic Division standings.

Tonight's game gets underway at 7:00 PM with coverage on FanDuel Sports Detroit and 97.1 The Ticket FM.
