The Red Wings picked up their first win in Edmonton since 2023 last night thanks to 45 saves from Alex Lyon, and Dylan Larkin says they learned their lesson.

Last year, the Detroit Red Wings were unsuccessful at Rogers Place against the Oilers, getting doubled up 8-4. This time in Edmonton, things were different.

Goaltender Alex Lyon made a season-high 45 saves against the Oilers, helping the Red Wings win 3-2 to start their 4-game road trip with a bang.

Captain Dylan Larkin, who scored in the 2nd period to tie the game and who also scored the deciding goal in the shootout after neither team could score in overtime, said that the team as a whole learned its lession from last year's loss in that building.

It was a big win. It's always a hard start in this building. We learned our lesson last year, I think we were down 2-0 after the first shift of the game. We came in the room down two, and we knew we had better. We knew we'd get our legs going from the travel day yesterday, and we did just that. From the second and third [periods] on, we played a pretty solid road hockey game.

Larkin now leads the Red Wings with 22 goals so far this year; the Red Wings now feature 3 players who have scored at least 20 goals by the end of January for the 1st time since 1995-96 when Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov and Slava Kozlov had done so.

That year, the Red Wings advanced to the Western Conference Finals against the Colorado Avalanache before being dispatched in six games; that series also kicked off the legendary rivalry that lasted for nearly 2 decades.
