While not overly busy in terms of personnel movement this season, the Detroit Red Wings have made a little-used forward available on the National Hockey League wavier wire.
General manager Steve Yzerman has waived forward Tim Gettinger, who has not played at all this season due to injury.
He was recently activated from the injured non-roster list and will report to the Grand Rapids Griffins if he goes unclaimed over the next 24 hours.
Gettinger played last season with the Griffins after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Red Wings last offseason, though he was hurt during the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Gettinger was the the 141st overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers but has only 16 games of NHL experience under his belt.
He's mostly played professionally in the minors, spending several years with the Hartford Wolf Pack before joining the Red Wings organization in 2023.
With the Griffins, he skated in 55 games and scored 12 goals with 13 assists and 20 PIM.
His highest statistical output occured in 2022-23 when he scored 13 goals and 22 assists for the Wolf Pack.
A physically imposing player at 6'6 and 215 lbs, was described as an above-average skater despite his size in his scouting report.
Expect to see Gettinger clear waivers and return to the Griffins.
