Red Wings F Marco Kasper makes key admission
The Detroit Red Wings are liking what they're seeing out of rookie forward Marco Kasper so far in his brief tenure in the NHL!
The Detroit Red Wings recalled forward Marco Kasper from the AHL earlier this month, and so far the move has paid off.
Kasper already has tallied his first two NHL goals just two games apart, as he scored against the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.
Unfortunately for the Red Wings, they went winless on that road trip before returning to Little Caesars Arena and earning a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Kasper admitted that the winless road trip was a frustration, but that the positive was that they took care of business on home ice, something they routinely discuss as a team.
We always talk about taking care of home ice, and I think we did that. It was a frustrating road trip - three losses in the last three games before [Thursday's] win.
We knew we pretty much had to win that game. We went into it with the mindset that we've been playing some good periods of hockey, just our overall 60 minutes have been there.
[On Thursday] we stuck to the plan. We didn't get goals in the first or second [periods], but we kept going and it finally went in.
A huge win for us.
Kasper's first-ever NHL goal came on Friday night as he fired a wicked wrist shot from the slot past Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson at Honda Center:
He's since been elevated to the second line alongside Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat, a position he'll be in tonight against the visiting Boston Bruins.
Kasper can't wait to get back in front of the home fans, who make Hockeytown what it is.
It's called Hockeytown for a reason. The fans always show up.
