The Detroit Red Wings have built up one of the better prospect cupboards in the National Hockey League thanks to the diligent work of general manager Steve Yzerman since his return to the organization in April 2019.
While names like Nate Danielson, Sebastian Cossa, Axel Sandin Pellikka, and Marco Kasper (who is now playing with the Red Wings) have typically gotten the most attention, another name fans are paying attention to is that of Amadeus Lombardi.
If you're unfamiliar with his game, take a look at a quick demonstration of his skill set below.
During the first period of last night's Grand Rapids Griffins game at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids against the Iowa Wild, Lombardi humiliated Wild captain Cameron Crotty with a brutal deke that sent him tumbling into the boards:
Earlier in the first period, Lombardi channeled his inner Datsyuk by stealing the puck from defenseman David Spacek and deking goaltender Dylan Ferguson with a toe-drag before roofing the puck, giving Grand Rapids the 1-0 advantage:
The 21 year old Lombardi was the 113th overall selection in the 2022 Draft by the Red Wings; he already had a Michigan connection by playing for the Ontario Hockey League's Flint Firebirds.
Continuing his tenure with the Firebirds after being selected by Detroit, he scored an incredible 45 goals and 67 assists for 102 points in just 67 games, the first player in Flint history to reach the 100-point plateau.
His offense wasn't as prevalent in his first year in the AHL, scoring just five goals with 21 assists in 70 games.
But he's already hit seven goals this season with Grand Rapids in 16 games along with five helpers.
