Thanks to some late-game heroics from Lucas Raymond and a strong game from Alex Lyon, the Red Wings stormed back to claim victory over the Islanders

The Detroit Red Wings officially won their third game of a season over the New York Islanders, taking a 4-2 decision at UBS Arena after trailing in the third period.

Dylan Larkin tied the score with his 12th goal of the season, followed by another goal late from Lucas Raymond, who now has goals in three straight games.

The Red Wings badly needed to put together a stretch of positive play, and they got it from goaltender Alex Lyon, who made a key admission afterward.

We're in desperation mode for sure. We need to play desperate every night and the best teams in this league play desperate every night.

If you're not desperate you have to find a way to play desperate. It's good, it's fun to play that way and it's a grind, but it's kind of where we're at.

We need to continue to push real hard.

Just treated it as a practice and get better being in those critical moments. As you go throughout the year as a team, you have to be comfortable in those situations.

I just treated it as a learning experience and just tried to stay in the moment and tonight it worked out, it was a fun game.

Meanwhile, Detroit's struggling penalty kill came through when it mattered most, as noted by Lyon.

We needed it (the penalty kill)here's going to be times when you're not going to have your power play and my experience in this league is you don't need your power play all the time but to be successful, if you don't have your PK, you don't have a chance.

The Red Wings will try and make it two straight when they return to the Motor City to take on the Calgary Flames from Little Caesars Arena.
