Red Wings' goalie coach speaks on opportunity to coach for Team USA
Red Wings' goalie coach Alex Westlund was invited to be part of Team USA's coaching staff for the IIHF Championship.
Westlund spoke of how much of an honor it is to have been able to represent the U.S. as a player twice in his career and now to be able to do it as a coach.
«It's a huge honor anytime you are involved in something like that,» Westlund told DetroitRedWings.com on Tuesday. «I was fortunate enough to play for the United States twice and those are two of my favorite memories as a player. Now to be on the coaching side, I'm saying the exact same thing. From that standpoint, it's just an awesome thing to be asked to do.»
Clearly the Red Wings goaltending is in good hands as Team USA hand-picked Westlund to help them out at the world tournament despite disappointing results.
