Should the Red Wings pursue this defenseman?
The New York Rangers were awarded the 2024 NHL Presidents' Trophy for the team with the most points this year, but their offseason plans are limited due to the salary cap.
With about $9 million in cap space and 19 players on the roster, the Rangers will face challenging financial decisions this summer. Their captain, Jacob Trouba, who has a $8 million per season cap hit, is one of the players who might be on the move due to his bad playoff performance and his significant decline in point production over the past few seasons. Speculation about the possibility of the Rangers trading Trouba elsewhere are strong and they could try to ship him to make some salary space.
One of the most intriguing options being proposed is a potential trade with the Detroit Red Wings involving Trouba and Justin Holl. However, the Rangers may face difficulties finding an ideal solution for Trouba's cap hit since teams, especially the Red Wings, don't want a contract that can put them in salary hell.
