The Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings, both Original Six teams, have a storied rivalry dating back to the early days of the NHL.

Their first game on November 18, 1926, saw the Bruins claim a 2-0 victory.
The rivalry heated up with several playoff encounters, including the 1941 Stanley Cup Final, where the Bruins' "Kraut Line" led them to victory.
The Red Wings avenged this in subsequent years, notably dominating the 1943 Stanley Cup Final.
The 1945 Semifinals saw a tightly contested seven-game series, with the Red Wings emerging victorious.
The rivalry continued through the decades, highlighted by intense games and memorable moments.
In the 1970s, Johnny Bucyk's 50-goal season and the 1980s' fight-filled encounters kept the animosity alive.
The teams didn't meet in the playoffs again until 2014, when the Bruins, led by Patrice Bergeron and Torey Krug, won in five games.
In recent years, Brad Marchand has excelled against the Red Wings, setting franchise records.
As the Bruins celebrate their centennial in the 2023-24 season, their October 28 game against the Red Wings will commemorate the early years of their rivalry, a fitting tribute to their long and fierce competition.
