Yzerman has a ton of cap space to turn things around
The Red Wings have now missed the playoffs for the 8th year in a row after making it in 22 consecutive seasons which included multiple Stanley Cup wins.
Heading into the off-season, the Wings have many players set to become UFAs which gives them $29.1 million in available cap space. While some key players such as Patrick Kane, David Perron, Daniel Sprong, Christian Fischer, Shayne Gostisbehere, and James Reimer are leaving, the Wings will have a blank page to sign who they want.
They do however have a few RFAs which are Lucas Raymond, Joe Veleno, Jonatan Berggren, Moritz Seider that will likely land big contracts but Yzerman will still have room to make some serious moves.
Since the market is full of high end talent this summer with players like Stamkos, Necas and Hanifin, the Red Wings have a serious chance at drastically improving their lineup for next season.
Hopefully Yzerman is able to get some serious deals done this off-season and the Red Wings will be able to truly compete next year.
