What a significant setback this wouled be for the Americans, as defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been hopsitlazed with an upper body injury.

What an incredibly devastating setback this would be.
The Americans have lost defenseman Charlie McAvoy to an upper body injury in the 4 Nations Faceoff, who has since been hospitalized; he was admitted to Mass. General Hospital on Monday.
According to head coach Mike Sullivan, the team overall attempted to spread some of the playing time around:
It's not easy. We try to spread the minutes around. I thought the guys competed hard.

American forward Jack Eichel also knows that it's not erasy having to play without top pieces in the lineup.
We start the game with 11 forwards, and then you lose another guy and a key player on our team. It's never easy. You don't want to see anyone go out.

I give the guys credit. We put a lot on (the) 10 forwards, and it's tough. (Head coach Mike Sullivan is) trying to find combinations. We had chances, but we just weren't able to bury.

Will the Americans get badly-needed help in the lineup for Thursday's showdown against Canada? Sullivan sounded optimistic.
I would anticipate we would (get players back Thursday). We'll have to wait and see how things play out here over the next day or so, but obviously there will be contingency planning in the event that we need people.

The Americans will once again face Canada on Thursday in what will be a rematch of Saturday night's 3-1 win in Montreal.
