Another big name of Sportsnet might be cut after Jeff Marek
Speculation has been swirling that Ron MacLean, a long-time fixture on Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC), might face cuts from Sportsnet amid ongoing media layoffs.
This follows Jeff Marek's recent dismissal, which has led to rumors of further network reductions. Jonah Sigel of YYZ Sports Media initially raised concerns about potential changes, causing fans to wonder if MacLean could be next.
However, Sigel later clarified that significant changes involving MacLean are unlikely before the current Rogers broadcasting deal expires in two years. MacLean, who has been with HNIC since 1986, has weathered controversies, including the fallout from Don Cherry's dismissal in 2019. Despite backlash over his handling of the situation, there's no current indication that MacLean is at immediate risk.
There are no confirmed plans for additional layoffs beyond the recent changes. Elliotte Friedman will continue his role with Sportsnet, including his «32 Thoughts» podcast, with a new co-host.
