On September 12, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving discussed Nick Robertson's future with the team during a press conference at the team's practice.

The media session followed the 22-year-old forward's recent one-year bridge deal, securing his spot with the team for the upcoming season. Despite trade rumors, Brad Treliving highlighted that Nick Robertson will have a chance to make an impact with the Maple Leafs, but emphasized that a contract alone doesn't guarantee success. Brad Treliving stressed the need for Nick Robertson to improve and become a well-rounded player. "It's not a sell. A lot gets made of it," Brad Treliving said regarding his summer discussions with Nick Robertson. "Nick has faced some challenges, including injuries, and his game is still developing."
Treliving, who has a good relationship with Nick Robertson, clarified that everyone needs to earn their place on the team. "I like Nick. He has a great shot, but he also needs to work on other aspects of his game to become a complete player."
With Brad Treliving indicating that nothing is guaranteed for Robertson, speculation about his future in Toronto is expected to persist until the trade deadline or until he is moved. Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli noted that despite the new contract, Robertson might still be traded before the season starts. "Despite the new contract, belief is Nick Robertson is still more likely to be traded than open the season with the Leafs," Seravalli reported on X. "There is still solid interest in Robertson."
Drafted by the Leafs with the No. 53 pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, Nick Robertson is coming off his best season, having played a career-high 56 games, scoring 14 goals and adding 13 assists.
